how’s everyone playing valorant feeling about their anti cheat rootkit now?

    • bloomingkales5 months ago |parent

Is this not in Marvel Rivals also? Think it’s in too many things at this point.

We would need Valve to enforce.

      • tylerchilds5 months ago |parent

you can’t install valorant from steam, so valve isn’t involved in tencent’s anti cheat rootkit.

i’d love to know if marvel rivals needs one though, if you have a source

Nope.. maybe. Valve now requires anti cheat to be present on the store page. Highlighted in yellow along with EULAs and 3rd party login.

Apex Legends did not have kernel level anti cheat even though recently they block linux/steamdeck users. Marvel Rivals[1] does not. A store page of game with kernel level anti cheat would be Delta Force[2].

Then again, I'm not sure how true this is since I'm pretty sure its the devs responsibility. GTA5 apparently added anti cheat[3] but their store page didn't indicate any.

What about all the Unreal Engine games? Tim Sweeney and his gang seem like they’ll do anything for the right price. We know they’re not above ripping off kids. Who’s to say what they’ve slipped into the latest build of Fortnite at Tencent’s request. Now that we know they’re useful idiots for the Chinese Military, hopefully they’ll start to get some scrutiny.

does epic also require a rootkit for anti cheat?

i’m only familiar with the valorant one since that’s the game my irl friends play that i won’t install because of

        That doesn't answer OP's question.

            > And you didn’t answer mine?

You must answer OP's question, unless your goal is to distract from the point OP made.

            This was OP's question:

            > how’s everyone playing valorant feeling about their anti cheat rootkit now?

Meaning, people playing Valorant are running a rootkit developed by a Chinese military company. How does everyone feel about installing a rootkit developed by a Chinese military company?

You misread me or don’t understand the context. I’m not trying to downplay whatever Valorant is doing, I’m suggesting that since Epic is also a Tencent company, they deserve the same level of scrutiny and skepticism.

              • tylerchilds4 months ago |parent

and my follow up question is: do epic games have the same rootkit valorant does? i’m genuinely curious to know

  • iFire4 months ago

If it's not clear both Epic Games and Unity are military contractors. Tim Sweeny probably will need to divest Tencent investment. The original Tencent investment is like 30%+ but now it's probably 20%+?

I was using Gameloop to play COD Mobile last year and I kept on getting BSOD until I uninstalled it and then it never happened again. Wonder what was going on...
