Musk's comments reflect upon what is wrong with our education system. Exams are about assessing students' ability to regurgitate what they have had to read / study. When you look at the typical exam, you'll notice that creativity and synthesis from first principles is rarely tested.
Musk claiming AI being at a PhD level reveals that he has absolutely no idea as to what gaining a PhD entails. In summary: A significant contribution to the body of knowledge. The antithesis of what can be determined by regurgitating what has already been written about any topic.
There's a problem with incentives here probably, if universities get paid for the amount of people they crank out, this sounds like a natural consequence, doesn't it?
> Musk claiming AI being at a PhD level reveals that he has absolutely no idea as to what gaining a PhD entails.
Or, more likely, he's just lying as usual.

... I mean what is that even supposed to mean?
It means Musk doesn't have a PhD, or any idea what it actually signifies.
"this is a really good product, give me money, and ignore all of the nazi stuff it spews"
